"division", "divideth"
Wordplay
Act 3,
Scene 5
Lines 29-30

Wordplay of the words "division" and "divideth" in myShakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Act 3, Scene 5.

Juliet

Some say the lark makes sweet division;
This doth not so, for she divideth us.

Juliet plays on the word divide when she says that the lark’s singing of a sweet “division” “divideth” her and Romeo. A division is a piece of music which has been made more elaborate by dividing the long notes of the song's melodic theme into several shorter notes.
