"foe"
Wordplay
Act 2,
Scene Prologue
Lines 7-9

A play on the word "foe" in myShakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Act 2, Prologue.

Chorus

But to his foe supposed he must complain,
And she steal love's sweet bait from fearful hooks.
Being held a foe, he may not have access

In the metaphor of the romantic poetry of line 7, Juliet is only a pretended “foe,” whereas in line 9 Romeo is considered a real “foe” by the Capulet family who will deny him access to Juliet.
