Allusion
Act 2,
Scene 3
Lines 1-4

An explanation of the allusion to “Titan’s burning wheels” in Act 2, Scene 3 of myShakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

[Outside Friar Laurence's cottage.  Enter Friar Laurence with a basket]

Friar Laurence

The grey-eyed morn smiles on the frowning night,
Chequering the eastern clouds with streaks of light;
And fleckled darkness, like a drunkard, reels
From forth day's path and Titan's burning wheels.

The Friar is referring to the mythological sun god who drove his fiery chariot across the sky each day.
