Cry but 'Ay me!', pronounce but 'love' and 'dove.'         
Speak to my gossip Venus one fair word,

Mercutio expects a lover’s spirit to be able to recite a typical love poem, which should include the cry of woe, “Ay me!” and the rhyme, “love” and “dove.”
