SARAH: Lord Capulet, welcome back to the studio. And you, sir, you are Paris, an up and coming young man in Verona, a relative of the prince, I believe.
PARIS: Yes, that's right. It's nice to meet you, Sarah.
SARAH: The pleasure's all mine. So you've come to talk to Capulet about something. But before we get to that, Sir Capulet, is everything all right with the family feud? I know you had to meet with the prince.
CAPULET: Oh, yes. Yes. No trouble at all, really. Montague is under the same restrictions I am. It got a little out of hand there, but it should be easy for us old guys to keep the peace.
SARAH: Well, good. I hope that works out. Such a shame, isn't it really, that this conflict has lasted so long, and both of your families so upstanding? And now here you are, Paris, to talk to Capulet. What are you meeting with him about?
PARIS: Yes. I've come to ask if I can marry your daughter, Juliet.
SARAH: Oh, my. Well, that is exciting. You have a daughter, Sir Capulet?
CAPULET: Yes. Juliet, she's my only child.
SARAH: Daddy's little girl. Must be hard for you to consider marrying her off. Have you two been dating, or I guess you might say courting, for long?
PARIS: I'm sorry? Oh, oh no. I haven't actually really met her yet.
SARAH: Excuse me? You haven't met her?
CAPULET: Look, Paris. Juliet's only 13. Why don't we wait a couple of years and talk about it then?
SARAH: Oh, dear. Did you just say Juliet is 13?
PARIS: With all due respect, sir, you know that girls even younger than Juliet have made happy brides and mothers.
SARAH: If I could just interrupt for a second, it sounds as if you're asking to marry Juliet even though you've never met her, and that it's legal to marry a 13-year-old in Verona.
PARIS: Yeah, sure. It's not a big deal. I don't know how you do things where you come from, but marriages in Verona are all about alliances between families. The Capulets are a very prominent family. And I'm a relative of the prince. The marriage would be good for both families.
SARAH: So, just how old does a girl have to be?
PARIS: Well, she has to be grown up. Got to be at least 12.
SARAH: Oh, my god.
CAPULET: But I should point out, those marriages don't always turn out well.
PARIS: So what are you saying? Are you rejecting my offer?
CAPULET: No. No. Look, Paris. You need to win her heart now. You know, romance her. Then ask me about marriage. I'm only going to agree to someone she would choose, as well. Look, I'm having a party tonight, a summer feast. Why don't you come? There'll be lots of women there. Take a look at all of them and see how Juliet measures up. And then we'll see if Juliet is still your choice. You should come, too, Sarah.
SARAH: Oh, no. Thank you, though. And thank you for stopping by. Sounds like you both have a party to get ready for.
