Henceforth be earls, the first that ever Scotland
In such an honor named. What's more to do,

An earl is a very high ranking noble. Originally an earldom consisted of a large amount of land, but by Shakespeare’s time the title merely indicated a high social rank. With this line, Shakespeare may have been making a subtle satirical dig at his new Scottish king. After James became king of England he was notorious for granting earldoms to his Scottish followers.
