"worn now in their newest gloss"
Metaphor
Act 1,
Scene 7
Lines 32-35a

An explanation of the metaphor, “Golden opinions… would be worn now in their newest gloss,” Act 1, Scene 7 of myShakepeare’s Macbeth.

Macbeth

He hath honored me of late, and I have bought
Golden opinions from all sorts of people,
Which would be worn now in their newest gloss,
Not cast aside so soon.

The good opinion Macbeth has earned with the King and his court is like new clothes, which should be enjoyed while they are new and shiny, not put aside.
