Ralph: Welcome back, everyone. And thanks, you two, for coming in.
Merchant as Vincentio: Happy to be back, Ralph.
Traino as Lucentio: Thanks for having us.
Ralph: So we just wanted to quickly check in. We've been a little worried that our audience might get confused by what's been happening. So, you sir, are, well, you've been presenting yourself as Lucentio from Pisa.
Tranio as Lucentio: My name is Lucentio, yes, if that's what you're asking, and I am the son of Vincentio of Pisa, this man here.
Ralph: Yes well, there is no need to keep up pretenses here. Our audience knows from an earlier interview that you sir are, well, what was it-- a traveling merchant or a traveling teacher.
Merchant as Vincentio: I am Vincentio of Pisa, my dear friend. And please don't forget that fact, my life depends on that fact.
Ralph: Well yes, so I imagine our audience remembers that, uh, Lucentio here told you that anyone visiting Padua from Mantua, where you're from, would be killed on sight. And so he's offered to help you disguise yourself as his father, Vincentio, so that you can keep yourself from being killed and get a little business done while you're here in Padua.
Tranio as Lucentio: It sounds like you've got it all straightened out now, Ralph. So can we go? We need to make an important visit to Señor Baptista.
Ralph: Oh, yes. So if I can just remind our audience about that detail-- as part of passing this man off as Vincentio, father of Lucentio, you've asked him to give assurances to Señor Baptista that he'll write Bianca into his will when she marries Lucentio.
Tranio as Lucentio: When she marries me. Exactly. And that's what we're just about to do. Are you ready to talk to Baptista as Vincentio?
Merchant as Vincentio: Yeah. Sure. That's what we're here for, right. All right, then, check this out. (IMITATING VINCENTIO) If I'm not mistaken, Signor Baptista may remember me from 20 years ago in Genoa, when we were both staying at the Pegasus.
Tranio as Lucentio: Very, very good.
Merchant as Vincentio: Do you think?
Ralph: Is he really going to talk that way?
Tranio as Lucentio: He's playing a wealthy gentleman, Ralph. And be sure to keep it serious and austere, as a farmer would do.
Merchant as Vincentio: Of course. Yeah. Oh, oh, but what about Biondello? He should be informed about all this, shouldn't he? I mean, we don't want him to, you know, blow my cover.
Ralph: Ah yes, good question. And it's just at this moment that Biondello joins the two of you.
Tranio as Lucentio: Don't worry about Biondello, I just need to tell him to pretend that you're Vincentio.
Ralph: Well yeah, so that's exactly what you tell him. And Biondello says not to worry about it, he can stick to the story.
Tranio as Lucentio: Did he do the errand with Baptista?
Ralph: Oh, yes. Biondello says that he told Baptista that Vicentio was in Venice but that you were expecting him in Padua today.
Tranio as Lucentio: Fantastic. I owe him a drink.
Ralph: Well, it's actually just at this moment that Baptista happens by. And as a matter of fact, they're coming into the studio. They should be here any minute.
Tranio as Lucentio: You should get your Vicentio face on.
Merchant as Vincentio: Right.
Tranio as Lucentio: Not quite. Mm, something else?
Ralph: You know what? Why don't we, why dont we take a minute. We'll be right back. So just-- we'll be right back.
Tranio as Lucentio: Very, very good.
