“he'll tame her ... he is gone unto the taming-school”
Discussion
Act 4,
Scene 2
Lines 49b-54

A discussion of Tranio’s mention of Petruchio’s “taming-school” in Act 4, Scene 2 of myShakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

Lucentio (as himself)

Then we are rid of Litio.

Tranio

I' faith, he'll have a lusty widow now,
That shall be wooed and wedded in a day.

Bianca

God give him joy!

Tranio

                               Ay, and he'll tame her.

Bianca

He says so, Tranio?

Tranio

Faith, he is gone unto the taming-school.

This is a minor plot discrepancy probably due to a revision of the play. It’s not until the next scene that we will see Hortensio at Petruchio’s house observing his friend’s shrew-taming techniques.
