“Who wooed in haste and means to wed at leisure”
Proverb
Act 3,
Scene 2
Lines 8-11

An explanation of Katherina’s proverbial reference in Act 3, Scene 2 of myShakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

Katherina

No shame but mine. I must, forsooth, be forced
To give my hand, opposed against my heart,
Unto a mad-brain rudesby full of spleen,
Who wooed in haste, and means to wed at leisure.

Katherina is playing on the proverb, “Marry in haste, and repent at leisure.”
