“A hasty-witted body would say … “‘head and horn’”
Wordplay
Act 5,
Scene 2
Lines 38-41

An explanation of “head and horn” in Act 5, Scene 2 of myShakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

Baptista

How likes Gremio these quick-witted folks?

Gremio

Believe me, sir, they butt together well.

Bianca

Head and butt! A hasty-witted body
Would say your “head and butt” were “head and horn”.

Bianca now joins in the jesting. She notes that a witty person could make a joke out of this image of Petruchio and Hortensio with horns growing out of their heads — the traditional depiction of a cuckold, a man whose wife is cheating on him.
