An explanation of Cinna's dreams in Act 3, Scene 3 of myShakespeare's Julius Caesar

[Enter Cinna the poet.]

Cinna the Poet

I dreamt tonight that I did feast with Caesar,
And things unlucky charge my fantasy.
I have no will to wander forth of doors,
Yet something leads me forth.

In Shakespeare’s day, people believed that bad dreams meant that something good was going to happen, and that pleasant dreams foretold disagreeable events. Cinna’s pleasant dream has led him to expect bad luck, so he has no desire to go outside.
