"commend"
Wordplay
Act 5,
Scene 2
Lines 137-140
Osric
Hamlet
[Exit Osric.]
"Commend" can mean either to offer or to praise. Orsic states “I commend (offer) my duty (service) to your lordship (Hamlet).” But in his curt reply, “Yours, yours”, Hamlet sarcastically means, “I commend (praise) the service you are rendering to your lord (King Claudius).”
