"go backward"
Wordplay
Act 2,
Scene 2
Lines 202-203

Play on the words "go backwards" in Act 2, Scene 2 of myshakespeare's Hamlet.

Hamlet

thus set down. For you yourself, sir, should be old as I am
if, like a crab, you could go backward.

Here’s another line of Hamlet’s which sounds like nonsense, but which can be explained. Polonius could in fact be as young as Hamlet if his age, like a crab, went backwards – that is, if it decreased instead of increased over time.
