"as swift as quicksilver"
Proverb
Act 1,
Scene 5
Lines 66-
The ghost says that the poison raced through his body as “fast as quicksilver”, a proverbial expression in Shakespeare’s day. Quicksilver is the pure form of the metal mercury. It’s called quicksilver because of its shiny appearance and because it’s the only pure metal which is a liquid at room temperature. Being heavy like all metals, it flows quite rapidly downhill.
