Act 3,
Scene 2
Lines 254b-260

An explanation of who Lepidus is in Act 3, Scene 2 of myShakespeare’s Julius Caesar.

Antony

                                                       How now, fellow?

Servant

Sir, Octavius is already come to Rome.

Antony

Where is he?

Servant

He and Lepidus are at Caesar's house.

Antony

And thither will I straight to visit him.
He comes upon a wish. Fortune is merry,
And in this mood will give us anything.

After Antony, Lepidus is the most powerful Roman general, though he is not particularly politically ambitious. Antony wants to have Lepidus as an ally in the power struggle that is likely to follow Caesar's death.
