Scene Summary:

In Padua, everybody gathers at Lucentio’s place. Petruchio, Kate, and Grumio arrive to show Vincentio, Lucentio’s real father, where Lucentio lives. When Vincentio knocks, the merchant, who’s pretending to be Vincentio, answers from a window, and then a fight breaks out about who the real Vincentio is.

Tranio knows it’s the real Vincentio, of course, but he lies and calls for an officer of the law to take Vincentio to jail. Then the real Lucentio and Bianca show up, having just got married. The imposters know the game is over and they leave in a rush. Lucentio confesses everything, announces his marriage to Bianca, and asks Vincentio to forgive the servants, as they were only doing what he told them to. Both Vincentio and Baptista are upset at this news, and so the two fathers leave to sort things out, Lucentio tries to reassure Bianca that things are going to be fine. They follow after their fathers, followed by Gremio, who realizes there’s no more hope of marrying Bianca.

Kate and Petruchio are left alone on stage, having thoroughly enjoyed the drama. Petruchio asks Kate for a kiss, which she’s reluctant to do in the middle of the street. But when Petruchio gives her a hard time for it, she finally agrees and kisses him.
