Humor
Act 3,
Scene 1
Lines 109-112

An explanation of the humor in the phrase “ass-head of your own” in Act 3, Scene 1 of myShakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Snout

O Bottom, thou art changed. What do I see on
thee?

Bottom

What do you see? You see an ass-head of your
own, do you?

Bottom is playing on the proverbial expression “a fool’s head of your own." His statement means something like "What do you take me for, a fool?" He doesn't realize what he's saying is literally true.
