Akilah Walker

Actor Bio: 

Akilah A. Walker is a classically trained actor who is moved by transformation, collaboration and nuanced storytelling that explores the lives of women and people of color. Akilah is a 2017 graduate of American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) in San Francisco where she received her Masters of Fine Arts in Acting as well as a certificate in Citizen Artistry. During her time in graduate school, Akilah had the honor of playing Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lincoln in an all-female version of Topdog/Underdog and Eurydice in an adaptation of Black Orpheus that she co-wrote, which was presented at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in 2016. Akilah A. Walker also co-wrote a two-woman play ‘A Subtletly: Black Women, Sugar & Power’, a cyclical satire chronicling sugar’s brutal impact on black bodies through time.

Akilah A. Walker also holds a BA in Acting from Fordham University in New York City. Akilah spent six years in NYC where she was able to work extensively with The Classical Theater of Harlem, most notably in their production of ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ as a part of their annual Shakespeare in the Park. Akilah has also worked with New York Stage & Film and is a former company member of The Bats, the award-winning resident acting company at the Flea Theater. During her time in NYC she had the opportunity to work with masters such as Phylicia Rashad, S. Epatha Merkerson, Billy Porter and Moritz Von Stuelpnagel.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Akilah discovered her love of acting through work with the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta. Beyond acting, Akilah is a Singer, Writer, Director, Teaching Artist and community collaborator. Most recently, she has directed Broke Brie a television-pilot following a young woman living in LA on a hilariously tight budget! Akilah A. Walker is also a muse, as she posed as the basis of renown contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley's sculpture 'Bound' which opened at the Brooklyn Museum in 2015.

Akilah A. Walker is what you might call “Quad-Coastal”, splitting her time between Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Atlanta. Akilah A. Walker is a proud member of Actors Equity Association (AEA)
