"make a heaven of hell"
Irony
Act 2,
Scene 1
Lines 243-244

An explanation of the irony in the phrase “make a heaven of hell” in Act 2, Scene 1 of myShakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Helena

I'll follow thee and make a heaven of hell,
To die upon the hand I love so well.

Earlier, Hermia had said that her father had made her life a living hell because of her relationship with Demetrius. Now Helena's saying that she’s going to make her hellish life heavenly — literally — by provoking Demetrius to kill her.
